Domaine de Kalathas To Kokkinaki 2023

The Estate: Domaine de Kalathas (DDK) is created by the Frenchman Jerome Binda, former graphic designer and antique dealer, who found in Tinos his second home that soon became his main one. Jerome adds his piece in the scene of Greek Natural Wines, based on the local varieties of Aspro Potamisi, Black Potamisi, Koumariano and Rosaki. The wines are extremely hard to find, they are bottled without adding sulphites, and the cultivation has been organic since 2013.

The wine:

  • A blend of three local varieties, 1/3 Koumariano, 1/3 Mavro Potamisi and 1/3 Kountoura (the local Mandilaria), from prophylloxera vines estimated to be 50-150 years old
  • The harvest manually and the grapes are pressed by foot while the vinification is very gentle, following the maceration carbonique method
  • Kokkinaki is a light and pale red wine (characterized as rose), with explosive aromas of wild strawberry and rose, which make up the ideal proposal of a summer red/rose wine
