Troussas Wines Avgoustiatis 2025
This exceptional dry red wine is crafted from Avgoustiatis, an ancient indigenous variety of Zakynthos, originating from a unique, pre-phylloxera, goblet-trained vineyard at the "Pera Pigadia" site in Lagopodo. Sustained by the meticulous hand-farming of third-generation grower Dimitris Troussas and the intuitive winemaking of Athena Tsoli, this wine serves as a living memory of the island's viticultural heritage. Following a brief pre-fermentation maceration, the wine matures in oak barrels for 5 months, beautifully capturing the grape's most refined expression. On the nose and palate, it reveals a striking combination of intensity, balance, and cohesion. This Avgoustiatis showcases an elegant profile with moderate alcohol and soft, fine-grained tannins that allow the delicate red fruit characters—ranging from cranberry and wild strawberry to cherry and fig—to shine. Even with its rich flavor profile, the wine maintains a fresh, natural acidity, making it wonderfully approachable and expressive in its youth.
