Estate Papaioannou "Thanassis Papaioannou" Red 2019

The "Thanasis Papaioannou" label is produced from the eponymous experimental grape variety, which was created through hybridization at the Athens Vine Institute in 2007. It originated from the crossbreeding of the "Odeski Tshiorni" (Cabernet Sauvignon x Alicante Bouschet) with the "Gewürztraminer" variety. This variety stands out for its high resistance to cold, drought, and fungal diseases compared to other Vitis Vinifera varieties. The wine is aged for 24 months in new oak barrels and for 6 months in the bottle.
In the glass, it presents a deep ruby color. The aromatic profile reveals red fruits, dried rose, plum, and cocoa, followed by notes of spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied with high acidity, distinct, well-integrated tannins, and a long-lasting finish.
