Sampanis - Estate

In 1980, Tassos Sampanis, mechanical engineer and his wife Ellie created their own winery in Ritsona, in Avlida in order to continue the family tradition on wine making. The modern winery situated in the center of the wine-growing zone of Agios Ioannis is 15 km away from the city of Chalkida. The winery is equipped with pneumatic presses, stainless steel double wall tanks and extraction tanks, the equal-volume bottling line and the air-conditioned oak aging cellar. The enterprise is certified in accordance to ISO 9001: 2000, ISO 22000: 2005 HACCP and I.F.C. 4 (International Food Certificate). The climate is mediterranean with cold winters, hot summers and a dry, long autumn. The soil is sandy-clay, of average composition. The vineyards are semi-mountainously located (350 m to 450 m) and cooled by the breeze coming from south Evian gulf. The privately owned vineyards are 280 acres. The grapes cultivated in the Estate is a mixture of indigenous and foreign varieties. Roditis, Malagouzia, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay are the main white varieties, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot are the red ones planted. Belief of both Tassos Sabanis and all those people involved in the effort to redefine the Estate in the world of wine is that the biennium 2008-2009 will be very important for the future.
