Georgakopoulos - Estate

Georgakopoulos Estate was founded in 2000 by the late grandfather Leonidas, at the region of Mendenitsa, in the municipality of Molos, in the prefecture of Fthiotida, above Thermopyles. The wines are being produced by the excellent oenologist of the company, Stelios Logothetis. Under a mountain saddle with northwestern exposure, where the breeze of the North Euboean gulf softens as it brings to the remains of a Venetian Castle the echoes of the Battle of Thermopylae*, lies Georgakopoulos Estate. The vineyard was the dream of the late grandfather Leonidas, a prolific professor at the Law School of the University of Athens. It became reality when, after a long research, he assembled the grounds in 2000 at an altitude of 450-600 m (1300-1900 ft) towards the peak of Mt Kallidromo near the village Mendenitsa. In the summer, the breeze truly softens and cools the vines creating an excellent microclimate. The dream passed to father Nicholas, professor of corporate and securities law, who feels proud of his vines and wines. * Battle of Thermopylae: was fought between an alliance of Greek city-states, led by King Leonidas of Sparta, and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I over the course of three days, during the second Persian invasion of Greece, in August or September 480 BC.
