X-BOURGO Wines
Α stunning Assyrtiko and Mavrotragano from Tinos

 

 

 

Greece is full of wine discoveries. To unearth new things it is only required to walk around the vineyards and have an open mind. And in Tinos there is great evolution, prospect and many surprises. The last ofthese are two wines from the Tripotamos Vineyards, under the name X-BOURGO.

 


 


 

X-BOURGO: The name refers to the imposing hill of Exomvourgo, where the medieval capital of Tinos, the Castle, was once built. Exomvourgo is a huge granite boulder of igneous rocks that dominates in the middle of the island, at an altitude of 640 meters.



THE VINEYARD: In a setting that looks as if it just stepped out of the Game of Thrones, with the majestic rock of Exomvourgo standing next to
it, the privately owned vineyard of entrepreneur Theodoros Kosmopoulos is located. It is planted in 11 terraces at 350 meters altitude, with a
density of 7.000 vines per hectare. Altogether there are 0.8 hectares there and another 0.9 near Ysternia.



THE WINES: 2017 was the maiden commercial vintage, producing only 2.300 bottles. 1.000 Asyrtiko bottles and 1.300 Mavrotragano-Mavrothoriko
bottles.

 

 

 

Yiannis Karakasis MW tastes the wines and comments:

 

"X-BOURGO wines confirm the great dynamics of the island and put another piece in the wine-making puzzle of its producers and styles of
wines. Assyrtiko is impressive, with exceptionally pure fruit expression, an ''islandic'' Assyrtiko typicity packed with complexity.
The red with 70% Mavrotragano in the blend is a fascinating, textural wine with fine crafted tannins and a solid umami character. I would buy
them both with eyes shut."
