Sitia Wines

Founded in 1933, the Union of Sitia numbers, today, 43 first degree cooperatives and 9600 farmers- members, almost all the agricultural families in the Sitia province. The Union has a long history in distillate making. Here are produced the reputed PDO Siteia wines, local wines and the famous grape distillate known as Varvaki Tsikoudia. They use, mainly, indigenous varieties. For the white wines, they use Vilana, Thrapsathiri, Assyrtiko and the red varieties of Liatiko and Mantilari. The facilities, in the position of Gkela are open to visit and in the underground part of the winery, apart from the cellars, there is, also, a tasting and a multimedia projection room.
