One of the major wine regions of Central Macedonia with PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) wines is Naoussa at Imathia county. In this area, the famous Xinomavro is cultivated, giving red dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet wines with great aging potential. It is considered that Naoussa is the area in which Xinomavro can find its best expression. It also participates in blends with Merlot impressing consumers with more cosmopolitan and modern style wines.
In addition to tha area red varieties, white varieties are also cultivated like Assyrtiko and Malagousia, with Prekniariko or Priknadi being the most characteristic one since it is a rare local variety that is found in very small quantities and only in Naoussa.
