Εnd of Summer in Greece and Grapes, with 7 of the best light red wines!
The end of summer is the perfect time for us to return to our favorite "red" habits. Starting from lighter reds that are distinguished for their freshness, medium body and their delicate, often silky tannins that make them suitable for consumption even slightly chilled.
Yiannis Karakasis MW comments:
"It is not very common in our country to produce light red wines, mainly because of the hot weather that leads the maturities levels quite high, adding volume and richness. However, there are several suggestions of lighter reds with alcohol that does not exceed 13% and with light - like a hug - tannins. Characteristics which provide all year round drinkability. Both in winter and summer. These wines are also excellent combinations in a meal balancing rich dishes and making the whole dining experience often more enjoyable."
In Greece and Grapes we chose for you:
Tetramythos Mavro Kalavrytino Nature 2017
Alcohol at 12.5%, fruity and soft with intense cherry aromas. Ideal for BBQ.
Estate Alpha Pinot Noir 2016 Ecosystem
Alchohol at 13.5% and one of the most expressive efforts of Pinot Noir in Greece.
Oenops Limniona 2016
Alcohol at 13%. Limniona is a rising star of Greek vineyards. Fruity, exotic and velvety in the mouth with round acidity and perfect tannins.
Sant'Or Krᾱsis 2015 Mavrodaphne
With alcohol at 12%, dry Mavrodaphne "rocks", giving wines with intense aromatic character. Here the Mavrodaphne of Sant'Or reminds more of Pinot Noir so for the food matching picture poultry or pork.
Oenoforos Tsigello 2017 Mavrodaphne
Alcohol at 13%. Charming, with crushed pepper, herbs and bitter chocolate in the mouth. Another Mavrodaphne that supports the spectacular evolution of the variety.
Diamantis Moschomavro 2017
Alcohol at 13% and a supreme effort by Dimitris Diamantis from Siatista. Soft, fruity and delicious wine for the starters but also for more "sinful" suggestions.
Dalamaras Naousa 2016
13% alcohol. Closing with a Naoussa from Dalamaras Winery which, following the iconic single vineyard Paliokalias, has presented us a charming version of a Naoussa, fruity with just the right amount of tannins that can accompany a very wide range of dishes. From vegetables if you're vegan, up to lamb chops if you are not.
